For non-standard applications, IMS offers a protocol for progressing from start to finish on a new project. This protocol can be quoted a la carte or as a comprehensive Joint Development Agreement.

1. Measurement of Dielectric Properties; These properties determine the ability of a static product to absorb microwave energy and are a function of the specific product, temperature and microwave frequency. We measure these on our Network Analyzer and require sample materials.

2. Simulation of Microwave Field Distribution; IMS produces a computer model simulation for each product/process, based on the information obtained in #1 using computer modeling customized to IMS’ patented technology and know how. The resulting model assists with predicting performance of IMS technology for a given applicator geometry. Correlation of the model performance to production systems has historically been flawless.

3. In-house trials; The continuous pilot plant capabilities of IMS are used for initial trials on the product using one or more versions of our various technologies. These pilot units are designed to work well on a wide range of products but not perfectly on any specific product. Since the design of each new IMS system is optimized to a specific product and range of dielectric properties, trials enable us to evaluate internally how your product is likely to perform under dynamic conditions. It is important to establish this information since product characteristics and phase changes can dramatically affect dielectric properties and thus the thermal performance. This information can then be used in the design and fabrication of a custom lab unit or production system depending on the customer’s preference.

4. Quotation for the design, fabrication, installation, start up and training of custom IMS equipment; Using the modeling results and empirical trial results, IMS would submit a formal quotation to the customer that includes process description and utility requirements, mechanical scope of supply, automation scope of supply, technical services, equipment price with options, and a schematic.
